Durgin Leads Women's Cross Country in Opening Meet

SMITHFIELD, R.I.-  Sophomore Emily Durgin led the UConn women’s cross country team in its opening meet of the 2013 season on Saturday  morning at Bryant University’s Shawn M Nassaney Memorial Race. In the non-scoring meet, Durgin crossed the finish line second overall with a time of 17:53.5 at a pace of 5:46 per mile.

Connecticut had six Huskies tally top-20 finishes in Saturday’s 5K, including two in the top-five with senior Brigitte Mania finishing fourth in 18:10.0.

Sophomores Abby Mace and Laura Williamson took 10th and 11th place with times of 18:32.4 and 18:36.0, respectively. The next Husky to conclude the race was sophomore Emily Howard who was 19th with a time of 19:01.1. The last UConn runner to cross the finish line was sophomore Katherine Vodopia who took 37th place out of 100 runners clocking in at 19:32.1.

The Huskies next run is on Saturday, September 14, at the UMass Invite. The race is slated to begin at noon.
