Connecticut and DePaul Earn Season's First BIG EAST Cross Country Athlete of the Week Honors

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Connecticut sophomore Lauren Sara and DePaul junior Matthew Graham both captured first-place finishes at their respective meets to help them earn the year's first BIG EAST Cross Country Athlete of the Week honors.
Sara helped her Connecticut squad to a first-place finish out of five collegiate opponents by taking the women's individual title at the CCSU Blue Devil Invite with a time of 17:10 in the 5k race. The Huskies finished ahead of Holy Cross, Central Connecticut State University, University of New Haven and Southern Connecticut State University. The sophomore outpaced her closest competition by 25 seconds. The victory marked Sara's first 1st place finish in her collegiate career. Her time of 17:10 was also a personal best.
Graham picked up his first win of the season, at the Horse Trail Lake Meet in Palos Heights, Ill. He finished the 4.1 mile course in a time of 20:29.5 claiming the individual title in the 71-man race. The Blue Demons finished in third out of seven teams at the meet behind University of Illinois Chicago and Loyola (Ill.) Graham's closest competitor finished more than 13 seconds behind him.
