Junior Shane Quinn Named BIG EAST Male Athlete of the Week

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Junior Shane Quinn (Waterford, Ireland) of the Providence College men's cross country team was named BIG EAST Male Athlete of the Week on Tuesday, Sept. 10. Quinn is the first Friar to earn BIG EAST Male Athlete of the Week for cross country since David McCarthy '12 did on Oct. 10, 2008.

Quinn and the Friars competed in the UNH Dual Meet in Durham, N.H. on Saturday, Aug. 31. Quinn led the Friars in a team win where six of the top seven spots were captured by Providence. He finished first with a time of 18:12 in the 6K race. The Friars defeated New Hampshire and Holy Cross with 17 points.

Last season, Quinn qualified for the NCAA Division I National Championships, where he finished tied for 69th with a time of 30:30.1 in the 10K race.

Providence is back in action this Saturday, Sept. 14 when the Friars travel to Stony Brook, N.Y. to compete in the Stony Brook Invitational.
