Week 1 USTFCCCA Coaches' Poll; 10 BIG EAST Cross Country Teams Remain in Top 30

, La. - Six BIG EAST women's cross country teams and four men's teams rank among the top 30 teams in the nation according to the year's first regular-season USTFCCCA Coaches' Poll. The Villanova women remain in the nation's top spot, while Syracuse is the highest ranked men's team at No. 9.
 
The Georgetown women made the most noise this past weekend, winning the Harry Groves Spiked Shoe Invitational, hosted by Penn State on Sept. 11. The Hoyas topped then-No. 7 Princeton and then-No.24 Penn State, moving them up four spots in No. 7 in the poll. No. 1 Villanova has yet to compete, but will open its season Sept. 23 at the Main Line Invitational.
 
Four other teams remain in the top 30 on the women's side. Syracuse fell one spot to No. 10 after winning the BIG EAST Preview meet on Sept. 11. The meet was a non-conference associated event hosted by the Orange at Jamesville Beach County Park, the site of this year's BIG EAST Championship on Oct. 30. West Virginia came in third-place in that same meet, falling two spots to No. 17. Providence won the Blue Devil Invitational and held steady at No. 14, while Notre Dame jumped two spots to No. 15. The BIG EAST and Big Ten are tied for the most teams in the top 30 with six each.
 
On the men's side, Syracuse remained at No. 9 after winning the BIG EAST Preview on Sept. 11. Villanova, who has yet to compete moved up to No. 14. Providence held steady at No. 20 after winning the Blue Devil Invitational, while Georgetown dropped nine spots to No. 25 after finishing second at the Harry Groves Spiked Shoe Invitational.
 
The next national poll will be announced on Sept. 21. The BIG EAST Conference Championship will be held at James Beach County Park in Jamesville, N.Y. on Oct. 30. The NCAA Division I Cross Country Championships will be held on Monday, Nov. 22 in Terre Haute, Ind.
