The BIG EAST has a full slate this weekend in field hockey action, including two conference contests. Villanova travels to Rutgers today for a 4 p.m. game, while No. 5 Connecticut hosts Providence at 7 p.m.
The first conference top-20 matchup is Saturday as No. 10 Louisville takes on No. 9 Syracuse at noon. The other ranked matchup this weekend takes place Sunday as No. 5 Connecticut travels to No. 12 Boston College.
Conference action gets underway this weekend for BIG EAST volleyball, with 14 matches to be played. Five matches begin the conference schedule on Friday, starting with Notre Dame (7-5) and West Virginia (10-5) at 4 p.m. The Irish are 14-1 all-time in BIG EAST regular-season openers, and lead the all-time series with the Mountaineers 15-2.
More Friday action includes No. 25 Cincinnati (11-3) hosting Seton Hall (5-10) at 7 p.m., while undefeated Syracuse (16-0) faces a red hot Georgetown (10-6) team that has won eight of its last nine matches. Villanova (11-3) puts its ten match winning streak on the line as the Wildcats travel to St. John's (13-4) at 7 p.m. Marquette (7-5) also hits the road as the Golden Eagles take on USF (4-7).
Action continues on Saturday and Sunday as Rutgers (7-6) and Louisville (5-4) both kick-off their conference slates at 2 p.m. Saturday afternoon. Pittsburgh (5-10) and DePaul (1-12) also hit the court at 3 p.m. Sunday will see Connecticut (2-8) play its first BIG EAST match, with the Huskies hosting Villanova at 2 p.m. to go along with six other BIG EAST matchups.
There are four women's soccer conference games set for Friday night, including No. 5/9 Notre Dame at home against Cincinnati. The Irish are an astounding 64-0-3 in its last 67 regular-season conference games and have not lost to the Bearcats in the previous six BIG EAST matchups. Other games include No. 24/18 Louisville at DePaul, No. 19 Georgetown at Rutgers and Villanova at Seton Hall.
After a busy first two weeks for BIG EAST cross country, only three teams will race this weekend. The Connecticut men's team takes part in the Ted Owens Invitational at Stanley Quarter Park in New Britain, Conn., on Saturday. The women's side will be split, with a group of runners heading to the Roy Griak Invitational in Minneapolis, Minn., and another group heading to the Central Connecticut State University Invitational. The No. 14 Providence women also will send a group of runners to the Roy Griak Invitational. Seton Hall men's and women's teams head south this weekend for the Asics Embry-Riddle Classic on Saturday.
Men's soccer also begins conference play this weekend, including three night games on Friday. No. 6/6 Connecticut tangles with No. 24/22 USF in Storrs, Conn., at 7:30 p.m. on ESPNU. Two other matchups on Friday include RV/NR West Virginia hosting DePaul at 7:30 p.m. and Rutgers welcoming Marquette at 8 p.m.
Saturday is a busy day with five games slated, including No. 12/16 St. John's hosting Notre Dame for a noon start. Seton Hall visits Villanova for a noon start as well, while No. 8/18 Louisville heads to Providence at 2:00 p.m. Two games will be played under the lights, with Georgetown heading to Cincinnati and Syracuse welcoming Pittsburgh.
Six BIG EAST football teams battle on the gridiron this weekend. Connecticut (1-2) has an early kickoff with Buffalo at noon for the first BIG EAST Network Game of the Week. Two games are also lined up for primetime viewing on Saturday, starting with Cincinnati facing No. 8 Oklahoma at 6 p.m. ET at Paul Brown Stadium - the home of the Cincinnati Bengals. No. 22 West Virginia takes on No. 15 LSU in Baton Rouge at 9 p.m. Both games will be on ESPN2. Rutgers is in action on Saturday afternoon, taking on North Carolina on ESPNU at 3:30 p.m. ET. Also slated for Saturday is Syracuse hosting Colgate at 3:30 p.m. and USF hosting Western Kentucky at 7:05 p.m.
