Villanova and Louisville Earn BIG EAST Cross Country Athlete of the Week Honors




PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Villanova senior Bogdana Mimic and Louisville sophomore Tyler Byrne both captured first-place finishes at their respective meets to help them earn BIG EAST Cross Country Athlete of the Week honors.
 
Mimic came in first place in the Women's Gold race at the Paul Short Run with a time of 20:10 on the 6k course. She led the Wildcats to a second place finish out of 45 teams, which propelled Villanova into the No. 1 spot in the Mid-Atlantic Region rankings. In the first individual race win of her career, her margin of victory was nine seconds.
 
Byrne raced to a first-place finish at the Greater Louisville Classic, finishing the 8k course in a time of 23:47.12 to lead his team to a second-place finish. He defeated the runner-up by nearly two seconds to finish first out of 240 runners. By winning the individual title, he became the first Cardinal to achieve the feat since Wesley Korir did so in 2004 and 2005.
