LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Following his weekend performance, University of Louisville sophomore Ernest Kibet was tabbed the American Athletic Conference's Men's Cross Country Athlete of the Week on Tuesday.
Kibet, who registered a second-place finish among 163 competitors in the Greater Louisville Classic, clocked an 8K time of 24:22.10. The Kenyan native, who took ninth in last year's meet, finished just two seconds behind the meet winner and was one of three UofL athletes who placed in the top 10. Louisville earned the team victory, finishing ahead of teams such as Tennessee, Georgia Tech, and Texas A&M.
The Cardinals' men's squad currently is ninth in the USTFCCCA Southeast Region rankings, while the women's program is seventh in the southeast.
Louisville, which is off this week, returns to action on Oct. 19 at the Wisconsin adidas Invitational in Madison, Wis. One of the premier collegiate meets, the field includes multiple nationally ranked programs in the men's and women's races.
