LOUISVILLE, Ky. - University of Louisville's Tyler Byrne is the American Athletic Conference Men's Cross Country Athlete of the Week for the second time this season, league officials announced Tuesday.
The redshirt junior finished 18th in Saturday's championship race of the Wisconsin adidas Invitational, one of the top collegiate meets in the country. His 8K time of 23:38 is the seventh-fastest mark at that distance in school history. He completed his first mile in 4:48 and maintained a solid 4:46 pace.
The Georgetown, Ind., native, who has registered a pair of top 15 school marks in the 8K this season, recorded his fourth consecutive top-20 finish over the weekend.
The Cardinals return to action for the postseason portion of their schedule, with the AAC Championships on Nov. 2 in Storrs, Conn. On Nov. 15, Louisville heads to the NCAA Southeast Regional in Charlottesville, Va.
