Six Teams Capture Spots at NCAA Cross Country Championships

PROVIDENCE, R.I- Six BIG EAST teams qualified for the NCAA Cross Country Championships with first or second place finishes at the NCAA Regionals on Saturday, November 12. Syracuse and Georgetown each took home men's and women's regional titles while Villanova tied for first in the women's meet and finished second in the men's.
For the third straight season, the Syracuse men's and women's cross country teams finished in first place at the NCAA Northeast Regionals. Pat Dupont led the men with a fourth place finish, while Lauren Penney finished second overall for the women.
Villanova senior Sheila Reid won the Mid-Atlantic Region individual championship for the third consecutive season and a share of the team title. Senior Bogdana Mimic finished third while the Wildcats tied Georgetown for first place in the region with 57 points. Villanova has claimed at least a share of a championship for the third consecutive year. Emily Infeld helped the Hoyas squad to a share of the title with a second-place finish. West Virginia finished third in the region with five team members earning all-region honors
The Georgetown men won the Mid-Atlantic Regional title for the seventh time in eight years. The Hoyas won the 25-team field with 47 points followed by Villanova, which finished second. The Villanova men's top five runners placed in the top 25 individually and earned All-Mid Atlantic Region honors. The automatic NCAA bid marks the fourth consecutive year the Wildcats will compete in the National Championship meet.
Other BIG EAST individuals and teams will be looking to qualify for the NCAA Championships with at large bids. The championship fields will be announced on Sunday, November 13 at 7 p.m. The NCAA Championships will be held on Monday, November 21 in Terre Haute, Ind.
