Olympic Sports Report- Dec. 3, 2010

Women's Soccer
No. 7/10 Notre Dame will take on No. 17/19 Ohio State on Friday, Dec. 3 at 4 p.m. ET in the semifinals of the NCAA Championship. The game will be televised on ESPN2, ESPNU and streamed live online on ESPN3.com. The winner will play for the national title on Sunday at Noon.
 
Men's Soccer
Louisville is representing the BIG EAST in the NCAA Championship, as the Cardinals won their first two games, advancing to the quarterfinals. Top-ranked UofL received a first-round bye before defeating College of Charleston 3-1 on Nov. 21 and Ohio State 2-1 on Nov. 28. The Cardinals will face UCLA on Dec. 4 at 7:00 p.m. for a chance to advance to the semifinal round.
 
Women's Volleyball
Louisville and Cincinnati are set to represent the BIG EAST Conference in the 2010 NCAA Volleyball Championship. Louisville, the recipient of the conference's automatic bid after winning the BIG EAST Championship crown, will take on Middle Tennessee today at 5 p.m. in West Lafayette, Ind. Cincinnati received an at-large bid and will face Western Kentucky today at 5:30 p.m. in Champaign, Ill. Both teams are participating in the Austin Region.
 
Cross Country
The Villanova women's cross country team won their second straight NCAA Championship title on Nov. 22 in Terre Haute, Ind. It was the 29th national title for the BIG EAST as a conference and ninth NCAA crown for the Wildcats, who had four runners finish in the top 22. Senior Sheila Reid won the individual title and was later named National Women's Athlete of the Year by the USTFCCCA. Head coach Gina Procaccio also was named National Women's Coach of the Year. As a conference, the BIG EAST dominated with four women's teams placing in the top 10. Georgetown notched fourth, Providence finished ninth and Syracuse grabbed 10th. Syracuse was the highest finishing team on the men's side in 14th.
 
Indoor Track and Field
Men's and women's indoor track and field opens this weekend with 10 men's teams and 12 women's teams in action at various meets around the country. Three teams including Notre Dame, Marquette and DePaul will compete at Notre Dame's Blue and Gold meet on Friday. Pittsburgh hosts a Blue and Gold meet of its own Friday and Saturday while Villanova is at the Jack Pyrah Invitational in Haverford, Pa. The St. John's women's team opened up at Manhattan College Multi-Event and will host a meet on Dec. 8. Georgetown, Louisville, Providence, Syracuse, USF and West Virginia also race for the first time this weekend.
 
Swimming and Diving
In Swimming & Diving action, the Louisville women are ranked No. 20 in the College Swimming & Diving Coaches Association of America poll, while the Cardinal men are No. 19. Three other BIG EAST schools received votes on the women's side, including Notre Dame, Villanova and West Virginia. For the men, the Irish and the Mountaineers earned votes.
