NEW YORK – Villanova senior outfielder Connor Jones and Seton Hall senior righty Josh Prevost were named the BIG EAST Baseball Player and Pitcher of the Week, respectively, on Monday.

BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll mentions went to Nick Collins of Georgetown, St. John’s Robert Wayman, Seton Hall’s D.J. Ruhlman, Hunter Schryver of Villanova and Vinny Nittoli of Xavier.

BIG EAST Player of the Week
CONNOR JONES, VILLANOVA Sr., OF, Chandler, Ariz.
Jones batted .500 (6-for-12) with two home runs, seven RBIs and five runs scored for the Wildcats. He smacked two triples and a stand-up inside-the-park home run in finishing 4-for-5 in an 11-9 loss to La Salle. The next day in Villanova’s home opener, Jones went 2-for-3 with a two-run homer in a 5-4 victory over St. Peter’s.

BIG EAST Pitcher of the Week
JOSH PREVOST, SETON HALL Sr., RHP, Belle Mead, N.J.
Prevost tossed Friday’s opener against Manhattan and it was another beauty. He threw a four-hitter for his first complete-game shutout with six strikeouts and no walks in a 2-0 victory over the Jaspers. The Pirates went 4-0 on the week, including a three-game sweep of Manhattan after beating James Madison last Monday 19-4.

BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll
VINNY NITTOLI, XAVIER Sr., OF/RHP, Gibsonia, Pa.
Tossed seven innings while allowing one unearned run on eight hits with no walks while striking out a career-high nine in a 7-1 win over Toledo.

HUNTER SCHRYVER, VILLANOVA Fr., LHP Mechanicsburg, Pa.
Took a no-hit bid into the seventh in his second career start in Villanova’s 5-4 win over St. Peter’s. Settled for a no decision after he left the game after seven with a 3-0 lead. Struck out 10 and retired 20 of the 24 batters he faced.


 

 

D.J. RUHLMAN, SETON HALL Jr., SS, Belle Mead, N.J.
Went 9-of-18 at the dish with one home run and three RBIs while slugging .722 for the Pirates in a 4-0 week.

ROBERT WAYMAN, ST. JOHN’S Jr., 3B, Salinas, Calif.
Batted .368 (7-for-19) with two multi-hit games, seven RBIs and six runs scored in the Red Storm’s 5-0 week.

NICK COLLINS, GEORGETOWN So., C/DH, Carthage, N.C.
Hit .500 (10-for-20) with three RBIs, four runs scored and a .600 on-base percentage last week as the Hoyas played in the Snowbird Classic.
