Louisville and Rutgers Earn BIG EAST Baseball Awards After 3-0 Outings in Conference Play

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Louisville third baseman Ty Young was named BIG EAST Baseball Player of the Week and Rutgers right-handed pitcher Tyler Gebler earned BIG EAST Baseball Pitcher of the Week accolades after sweeping conference opponents last week.  


Young went 8-for-14 with seven RBI, three triples and four runs scored in a 3-1 week for No. 10 Louisville. The Cardinals faced two nationally ranked opponents, falling 6-2 to No. 19 Indiana before sweeping No. 15 Notre Dame last weekend. The junior had five RBI and two triples in a 10-5 victory over the Fighting Irish in the first game of the series.


Gebler was named BIG EAST Baseball Pitcher of the Week after pitching a complete-game 2-0 shutout of Villanova. The senior tallied eight strikeouts, no walks and scattered just three hits in the victory. The Scarlet Knights earned consecutive league shutouts (6-0 and 2-0) for the first time since 2003 en route to the series sweep.

Danny Poplawski, Georgetown, Sr., IF

Poplawski went 5-for-12 (.417) with three RBI and two runs scored in a series win over USF.


Adam Norton, Notre Dame, Sr., RHP

Norton went eight innings in a no-decision against No. 10 Louisville, giving up one earned run and five hits.


Ethan Mildren, Pittsburgh, Jr., RHP

Mildren threw a complete game against Towson in a 5-2 win, allowing six hits and one earned run. The Panthers went 4-0 last week.


Nick Favatella, Rutgers, Jr., 2B

Favatella went 7-for-13 (.538) with five runs scored, four RBI and three doubles in a sweep at Villanova last week.


Josh Prevost, Seton Hall, Jr., RHP

Prevost tossed just over seven scoreless innings in a 3-0 win for Seton Hall over Connecticut. The junior allowed just three hits.
