PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Cincinnati senior righthander Dan Jensen earned BIG EAST Pitcher of the Week honors while Connecticut junior infielder Nick Ahmed was named BIG EAST Player of the Week for the week ending April 3 as announced by the conference office on Monday.
Ahmed earns Player of the Week honors after leading Connecticut to a 4-0 week including a sweep of conference rival St. John's. The junior hit .429 (6-for-14) with four doubles and a .714 slugging percentage. He also scored seven runs while driving in six. Ahmed registered hits in three of the four games, including a pair of multi-hit games and three multi-RBI outings. He went 3-for-4 with two doubles, two RBI and three runs scored in the series opener against the Red Storm. Ahmed also finished the week with three stolen bases without being caught along with 19 assists and 12 putouts without an error at shortstop.
Jensen earns Pitcher of the Week honors after tossing his first career complete game to earn a win over Georgetown. The senior allowing just one unearned run on five hits while striking out a career-high 11 batters to lift the Bearcats to a 3-1 victory. He surrendered just one extra-base hit. Cincinnati went on to sweep the Hoyas in the series.
Eight of the 12 BIG EAST teams sit at 3-3 through two weekends of conference play. Seventeen of the 36 league games have been decided by two runs or fewer. Five games have been decided in extra innings. With a series win against West Virginia, Louisville has won eight-straight conferences series. West Virginia's series-opening win against the Cardinals was the first ever for the Mountaineers at Louisville. Home teams hold a slim 20-16 advantage through the first 36 conference games.
