BIG EAST Baseball Statistics
PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Notre Dame first baseman Trey Mancini was named BIG EAST Baseball Player of the Week and USF right-handed pitcher Jimmy Herget earned BIG EAST Baseball Pitcher of the Week honors after both helped their teams pick up crucial conference wins.
Mancini was named BIG EAST Baseball Player of the Week after he went 7-for-19 (.368) in a 4-1 week for the Fighting Irish. The junior had 10 RBI, including six in an 11-8 win over Villanova on Saturday, April 8. Mancini hit a grand slam home run in the bottom of the sixth to clinch the victory.
Herget earned BIG EAST Baseball Pitcher of the Week accolades with a complete-game shutout in a 1-0 win against Pittsburgh on Friday, April 5. The freshman allowed just three hits, one walk and recorded four strikeouts in the win. USF swept Pittsburgh in Tampa and went 4-0 last week.
Jeff Thompson, Louisville, Jr., RHP
Thompson improved to 6-0 from the mound, pitching seven shutout innings with nine strikeouts in a 4-1 win against Cincinnati.
Ty Young, Louisville, Jr., 3B
Young tallied five RBI, one home run and went 7-for-18 (.389) in a 3-1 week for the Cardinals.
James Lomangino, St. John's, Jr., RHP
Lomangino pitched seven scoreless innings, scattering four hits and recording seven strikeouts in a 3-0 win over Connecticut.
Jon Prosinski, Seton Hall, Sr., RHP
Prosinski threw a complete game in a 15-1 win over Rutgers on Friday. The senior struck out seven and allowed six hits.
Jimmy Falla, USF, Sr., OF/1B
Falla went 8-for-16 (.500) with seven RBI and four doubles in a 4-0 week for the Bulls. The senior brought in the winning run in Friday's 1-0 win over Pittsburgh.
