Pittsburgh, West Virginia Earn BIG EAST Baseball Weekly Honors

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Pittsburgh senior catcher Kevan Smith earned BIG EAST Player of the Week honors while West Virginia freshman leftthander Harrison Musgrave was named BIG EAST Pitcher of the Week for the week ending April 10 as announced by the conference office on Monday. Smith earns Player of the Week honors after leading Pittsburgh to a 4-1 week including a sweep of BIG EAST foe Villanova. Smith led the conference last week with nine RBI and seven runs scored. He hit .409 (9-for-22) notching multi-hit performances in four of the five games last week. The senior also had three steals and did not commit an error in 19 chances in the field. Smith had at least one RBI in each of the five games, including going 6-for-12 with six RBI in three games against Villanova. Musgrave earns Pitcher of the Week honors after tossing a complete game shutout to help the Mountaineers to a 4-0 win against Georgetown on April 9. Musgrave allowed just three hits and two walks while striking out two on his way to his first career complete game. The freshman threw 120 pitches in the outing and helped WVU to a sweep of the Hoyas over the weekend. Through three weekends of play, Connecticut holds a one-game lead on first place in the BIG EAST with Louisville, Pittsburgh and West Virginia all one game behind. Twenty-three of the 54 conference games played have been decided by two runs or fewer. Six games have been decided in extra innings. With a series win against Cincinnati, Louisville has won nine-straight conference series. Cincinnati's Jake Proctor is a perfect 14-for-14 in stolen bases this season. He is the only player in the BIG EAST with at least 10 steals to not be caught.
