NEW YORK – Creighton sophomore Reagan Fowler and Seton Hall senior Josh Prevost were named the BIG EAST Player and Pitcher of the Week, respectively, by the conference Monday afternoon. Both student-athletes were instrumental in their teams’ success last week, which included three-game sweeps in BIG EAST play. The Bluejays took all three from Butler in Omaha, while the Pirates held firm at home with three wins against visiting Villanova.

REAGAN FOWLER, CREIGHTON So., 1B, Omaha, Neb.
Fowler hit 9-of-13 for the week (.692), which included a torrid 7-of-9 during Creighton’s three-game sweep of Butler in BIG EAST play over the weekend in Omaha. He smacked a walk-off single in the opener of Saturday’s doubleheader against the Bulldogs to give the Bluejays a 2-1 win and then went 3-for-4 with an RBI and three runs scored in a 4-2 victory in the nightcap. Fowler was also 3-for-3 with an RBI and scored twice in Friday’s opening game against Butler, an 8-1 win, and added a 2-for-4 showing earlier in the week against Nebraska-Omaha.

JOSH PREVOST, SETON HALL Sr., RHP, Belle Mead, N.J.
Prevost had another dominant outing Friday, tossing his fourth complete game of the season. He allowed just two hits while fanning a career-best 13 batters en route to his second shutout of the season, a 10-0 victory against Villanova. He lowered his ERA to a conference-best 1.48 and is 9-1 on the season.

ZACH LAURICELLA, ST. JOHN’S Jr., OF, Buffalo, N.Y.
Hit .529 (9-for-17) during a 4-0 week for the Red Storm, including an 8-for-13 (.615) showing in a three-game sweep of conference foe Georgetown. Drove in seven RBI and scored six times against the Hoyas.

MATT WARREN, CREIGHTON So., RHP, Omaha, Neb.
Remained perfect for 2014 and improved to 9-0 on the season in Friday’s 8-1 win over Butler. He allowed one run on six hits with no walks and two strikeouts over seven innings, and retired 10 straight hitters during one stretch.


 

 

STEVE ANDERSON, GEORGETOWN Sr., 1B, Albany, N.Y.
Hit .400 (8-for-20) in four games and totaled nine RBI for the week. Drove in three runs during a 4-for-4 outing in a 7-2 win against UMES in the second half of a twinbill. Knocked home three RBI, with two coming on a single during the Hoyas’ five-run seventh inning Friday against St. John’s.

D.J. RUHLMAN, SETON HALL Jr., SS, Belle Mead, N.J.
Hit .471 over five games, scored seven times, drove in three and stole a base. Hit safely in all five contests and drove in a run in three. Went 5-for-9 in the first two games of the three-game set with Villanova with four runs scored and two RBI. Is hitting a BIG EAST-best .394 on the season.

JOE KUZIA, ST. JOHN’S Jr., RHP, Seymour, Conn.
Threw three scoreless innings to record his seventh and eighth saves of the season. Has not allowed an earned run in 28.1 innings this season. Entered the game with the based loaded and two outs in the eighth inning and tossed 1.1 scoreless innings to preserve a 4-2 win against Boston College. He also worked 1.2 scoreless innings to wrap up a 7-6 win over Georgetown Friday.
