QUEENS, N.Y. -
Following a series win against Notre Dame that clinched a berth into the eight-team BIG EAST Tournament field, St. John's had a pair of players earn conference honors as Frank Schwindel was named BIG EAST Player of the Week and James Lomangino was selected to the weekly honor roll.
The Player of the Week accolade is the second of the season for Schwindel, who also nabbed top weekly honors on March 18 after batting .769 with a four-hit game and two three-hit games in a 3-0 week.
Schwindel batted .583 (7-for-12) with a .917 slugging percentage and three multi-hit games in the series against the Fighting Irish. The first baseman had one double and one home run to go with three RBI and three runs scored. After finishing 2-for-3 in the opener, Schwindel went 2-for-4 with an RBI in the second game. The junior finished a triple shy of the cycle and was 3-for-5 with two RBI and three runs scored in the finale.
Schwindel ranks eighth in the league with a .347 batting average and is tied for fourth with 50 RBI. The junior ranks tied for third with 19 doubles, tied for ninth with five home runs and fifth with 109 total bases.
Lomangino matched a career-high with 10 strikeouts as part of his first-career complete game effort in a series-opening 4-1 win against Notre Dame.
