PROVIDENCE, R.I.- Georgetown senior Rand Ravnaaswas selected as the BIG EAST Baseball Player of the Week and Louisville's junior Justin Amlungwas named BIG EAST Baseball Pitcher of the Week. With one weekends remaining in BIG EAST play, seven of eight spots in the BIG EAST Championship have already been clinched.
Ravnaas batted .545 (6-for-11) with two doubles and four runs scored as part of a 2-1 week that included a series win against West Virginia. He added an RBI to go with a .727 slugging percentage and a .615 on-base percentage. The series win keeps the Hoyas alive for the final spot in the BIG EAST Championship. Overall this season, Ravnaas is batting .320 (58-181), is third on the team in hits (58) and runs (33) and second in doubles (12), RBIs (34) and stolen bases (13).
Amlung pitched seven shutout innings allowing only three hits with six strikeouts to earn his eighth win of the season in the Cardinals' 5-0 series-opening victory over St. John's on Friday night. Overall, Amlung is 8-3 on the season with a 1.99 ERA and 91 strikeouts in 90.1 innings. With his 23rd career win, Amlung moved into sole possession of second on the Cardinals' all-time win list behind only Justin Marks' 29 from 2007-09.
