NEW YORK – A pair of teams that were jockeying for position at the top of the BIG EAST standings entering the final weekend of the regular season wound up sharing the last weekly baseball awards of 2014. Robbie Knights of St. John’s picked up the Player of the Week honor and Creighton’s Bryan Sova was named the Pitcher of the Week.
Creighton led St. John’s by one game headed into the final weekend. Both took two of three from Xavier and Seton Hall, respectively, giving the Bluejays the BIG EAST Tournament’s top seed and the Johnnies the No. 2 slot.

Knightes batted .667 (8-for-12) and .700 (7-for-10) during the three-game series at Seton Hall, which the Johnnies claimed in order to stay in the running for a share of the BIG EAST regular-season crown before Creighton won it in Saturday’s finale at Xavier. The freshman went 6-of-7 in Saturday’s doubleheader split, at one point collecting six consecutive hits. Knightes drove in four runs on the week, including three in the Seton Hall series, and collected the BIG EAST regular-season batting title.
