BIG EAST Baseball Statistics
PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Louisville's Jeff Gardner and Nick Burdi earned BIG EAST baseball weekly awards after helping the Cardinals to the regular-season championship at Jim Patterson Stadium.
Gardner was named BIG EAST Baseball Player of the Week after hitting three home runs on 5-for-15 from the plate in a 4-0 week for the Cardinals. In a series sweep of Pittsburgh last weekend, all four of Gardner's hits were for extra bases, including three home runs and a triple.
Burdi picked up three saves including two in the series sweep of Pittsburgh. In 3.2 scoreless innings of relief last week, the sophomore tallied seven strikeouts and gave up just three hits and five walks. The righty tops the league in saves this season with 14.
The 2013 BIG EAST Baseball Championship at Bright House Field begins Wednesday May 22. All games will be available on ESPN3 with the championship game on May 26 on ESPNU.
LJ Mazzilli, Connecticut, Sr., 2B
Mazzilli went 8-for-16 (.500) in four nonconference games for the Huskies last week. The senior had three stolen bases, one home run and five RBI.
Vinny Zarrillo, Rutgers, So., OF
Zarrillo went 8-for-15 (.533) in the series loss against USF last week. The sophomore tallied two stolen bases, three doubles and four RBI against the Bulls.
Zack Granite, Seton Hall, Jr., OF
Granite hit .412 (7-for-17) in the 3-1 week for the Pirates. The junior notched one double, two RBI and two stolen bases in a series win against St. John's.
James Ramsay, USF, Jr., OF
Ramsay went 7-for-16 with five runs scored to help the Bulls earn the No. 4 seed in the league championship by winning the series against Rutgers. The junior tallied two RBI and two walks in the series win.
Connor Jones, Villanova, Jr., OF
Jones went 10-for-18 (.556) with nine RBI, two home runs, two doubles and two walks in a 3-1 week for Villanova.
