Louisville, Connecticut Selected To NCAA Baseball Championshp

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Two Big East baseball teams heard their names called on NCAA Selection Monday as Louisville and Connecticut will compete in the 64-team NCAA Championship.

Louisville, the Big East regular-season champion which was chosen as one of 16 regional hosts Sunday night, will face Bowling Green in its first game Friday at 6 p.m. at Jim Patterson Stadium. The Cardinals also will entertain Oklahoma State and Miami (Fla.) in their bid to return to the College World Series for the first time since 2007.

Connecticut, which won its first Big East tournament title since 1994 Sunday, was placed in the Blacksburg (Va.) Regional, where the Huskies will face Virginia Tech. UConn will meet either Coastal Carolina or Oklahoma in its second game. The Huskies' last NCAA appearance saw them advance to the Super Regional round after they won the Clemson Regional in 2011.

A Big East team has reached the Super Regionals of each of the last two NCAA tournaments. The league enters the NCAA tournament with a unique winning streak - Big East teams have won their last seven NCAA tournament games against teams that did not go on to win the NCAA title. The only squad to defeat a Big East team in last year's tournament was Arizona, the eventual national champion.
