No. 8/8 Villanova (12-1, 1-0 BIG EAST) beat Rutgers (9-4, 0-1 BIG EAST) 81-65 in the lone BIG EAST game on Sunday. It was the seventh-straight win for the Wildcats, who got a game-high 23 points from Corey Stokes to notch the win. Stokes was held to just two points in the first half, but went for 21 in the second to pace the offense. The Scarlet Knights held a four-point halftime lead after holding Villanova to 35.7 percent shooting in the first 20 minutes. Jonathan Mitchell had 17 points and five rebounds to lead the Scarlet Knights. The Wildcats quickly erased the four-point halftime deficit with an 11-0 run in the first 2:11 of the second frame and never relinquished the lead. Stokes hit two 3s in that stretch. Corey Fisher added 19 points and six rebounds for VU. No. 9/9 Georgetown visits St. John's in the only BIG EAST game on Monday. The contest will be aired on ESPN2 at 7 p.m.
