In the only BIG EAST contest on Monday, Marquette (12-5, 3-1 BIG EAST) shot 12-of-17 from 3-point range to take down No. 9/11 Notre Dame (14-3, 3-2 BIG EAST) by a final of 79-57. The Golden Eagles were led by guard Dwight Buycks, who dropped a career-best 21 points while knocking-down all five of his 3-point attempts. Forward Jae Crowder added 18 points including four 3s while grabbing a team-best seven rebounds. The 12-of-17 from 3-point range was the best shooting performance for MU since a 12-of-15 showing against Tulane in 2001. Notre Dame came as close as four points in the second half, trailing just 33-29 following a free throw from Tyrone Nash. Guard Eric Atkins led Notre Dame with 15 points, while guard Scott Martin notched his first career double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds. Guard Ben Hansbrough was held to just nine points in the game, breaking a string of 10 straight contests in double figures. MU controlled the game for the rest of the second half, scoring 31 of the next 45 points to take a commanding 64-43 lead with 7:39 left. Tonight's BIG EAST schedule features Rutgers visiting Connecticut at 7 p.m. ET. The Huskies are 16-1 against the Scarlet Knights in BIG EAST regular-season play and have won nine straight meetings.
