In the only BIG EAST game on the schedule on Thursday, West Virginia (11-4, 3-2 BIG EAST) defeated Providence (11-7, 0-5 BIG EAST) 93-63 in Morgantown, W. Va. John Flowers led the Mountaineers with a career-high 24 points, eclipsing the 20-point plateau for the first time in his collegiate career. Kevin Jones added a double-double for WVU with 19 points and 13 rebounds. Casey Mitchell and Deniz Kilicli had 14 points apiece. West Virginia took control of the game early, going on a 21-0 run from the 13:28 mark until 6:36 remaining in the first half. The run took a 17-12 lead to a 38-12 advantage. West Virginia would lead by 26 at the half. Providence got a team-best 13 points from Marshon Brooks, who was held below 20 points for the first time in 11 games. Vincent Council added 11 points and four rebounds for the Friars. No games are on the slate for Friday night, but Saturday is a busy day in the BIG EAST. Six games are played on Saturday including five conference battles. The action starts with an early game between Marquette and Louisville on ESPN2 at 11 a.m. Eastern. Two more games tip-off at noon, as undefeated Syracuse hosts one-loss Cincinnati in the BIG EAST Network Game of the Week, and Rutgers hosts Georgetown on ESPNU. Villanova has a nonconference battle with Maryland on CBS at 1 p.m. Connecticut visits DePaul for a 2 p.m. game on ESPN3.com.
