Thanks in part to a 23-point, six-assist performance that dropped Creighton from the ranks of the BIG EAST unbeatens, Providence guard Bryce Cotton was named the BIG EAST Player of the Week on Monday. The Friars went 2-0 on the week and moved over .500 in BIG EAST play. DePaul's Billy Garrett, Jr., claimed the Rookie of the Week nod after a career-high point total in a home win versus St. John's.
BIG EAST PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Bryce Cotton, G, Providence
Cotton averaged 22.0 points, 7.0 assists and 6.0 rebounds in a 2-0 week. He had a game-high 23 points and six assists in an 81-68 win over No. 20/19 Creighton. In an 84-83 double-overtime win at St. John's, he sank the winning basket and finished with 21 points, nine rebounds and eight assists. He played all 90 minutes for the week.
BIG EAST ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
Billy Garrett, Jr., G, DePaul
Garrett, Jr. averaged 16.0 points and four assists in a 1-1 week. In a 77-75 win against St. John's, he scored a career-high 21 points and dealt five assists. For the week, he committed just two turnovers and shot 12-of-12 from the foul line.
