WASHINGTON - Georgetown University sophomore men's basketball player Otto Porter Jr. (Morley, Mo./ Scott County Central) was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll for the second-straight week on Monday. This is the fourth time this season he has been named to the Weekly Honor Roll.

Porter Jr. was named the National Player of the Week by NBC CollegeSports.com.

Porter Jr. helped to lead the Hoyas to a pair of wins over nationally-ranked teams, winning 63-47 at No. 24 Notre Dame last Monday and following that up with a thrilling 53-51 win over then-No.5 Louisville at home on Saturday.

The Hoyas, 14-4 overall and 4-3 in the BIG EAST Conference, host Seton Hall in a BIG EAST Conference matchup at Verizon Center on Wednesday, Jan. 30. Tipoff time at Verizon Center is slated for 7 p.m. The game will be shown live on MASN with Mike Corey and Bob Wenzel calling all of the action. Fans locally can tune in to Sports Talk AM 570 for the radio call of Rich Chvotkin.

Porter Jr. averaged 18.0 points and 10.5 rebounds while shooting 52.2 percent from the floor (12-of-23) and 55.6 percent from three-point land (5-of-9). He scored 19 points, grabbed nine boards and had two assists, two blocks and two steals in the win at Notre Dame and recorded his fifth double-double of the season with 17 points and 12 rebounds against Louisville.

Last week, Porter Jr. was among a group of 25 players nationally named to the John R. Wooden Award Midseason Top 25. The players on the list are considered strong candidates for the official ballot. The National Ballot consists of approximately 20 top players who have proven to their universities that they are making progress toward graduation and maintaining at least a cumulative 2.0 GPA.

Porter Jr. leads the team in scoring (14.7 points per game) and rebounding (7.9 rebounds per game) and is third on the team in assists (2.47) and leads the team in blocks (20) and steals (31). He ranks 12th in the BIG EAST in scoring, fourth in the league in rebounds, but also ranks among the league leaders in field goal percentage (10th, 50.5%), three-point field goal percentage (fifth, 44,4%), steals (eighth, 1.8 spg), blocked shots (13th, 1.2 bpg), defensive rebounds (1st, 6.2 rpg) and minutes played (ninth, 34.7 mpg).
