Marquette made it back to .500 in the BIG EAST standings with Thursday’s 61-50 win over visiting Providence. MU coach Buzz Williams shuffled his starting lineup and had 10 players see double-digit minutes of playing time.

Forward Davante Gardner, who went back to his sixth man role, led Marquette with 14 points and six rebounds. Bryce Cotton, as usual, led the Friars with 20 points. The loss ended Providence’s five-game winning streak.

Both teams are back in action Saturday afternoon. Marquette is in New York for the Super Saturday Doubleheader on FOX Sports 1 at Madison Square Garden. The Golden Eagles will battle St. John’s in the first game followed by Georgetown versus Michigan State in the second contest. The Hoyas want to end a five-game losing streak.

Providence took the bus from Milwaukee to Chicago for its game at DePaul. The Friars will try to get their shooting touch back after hitting only 32.8 percent in the Marquette game. DePaul is trying to halt a threegame losing streak. The Blue Demons play three of their next four games at Allstate Arena.

Seton Hall and Xavier start the day at noon ET at the Cintas Center. Both teams want to bounce back from defeats. The Pirates dropped a 64-57 decision at home against Butler. The Musketeers, who want to maintain their third-place position in the league standings, have been off for a week since losing 81-72 at Providence last Saturday.

Villanova plays its final non-conference game of the season when it travels to Philadelphia Big 5 rival Temple. The Wildcats are 3-0 in Big 5 games.
