On Tuesday, St. John’s continued its momentum and Marquette rallied to win and get back to .500 in the BIG EAST standings.
The Red Storm shot 61.1 percent from the field in the first half to build a 53-37 lead, then fought off a Providence rally to win 86-76 at the Dunkin’ Donuts Center.
D’Angelo Harrison scored 22 points and JaKarr Sampson added 21 points for the visitors. Rysheed Jordan posted 18 points, six assists and three steals. The Red Storm have won five of their last six games.
Providence’s Bryce Cotton scored a BIG EAST career-high 32 points. He shot 6-of-10 from 3-point range and dealt six assists. Kadeem Batts contributed 15 points and a game-high 10 rebounds.
In Milwaukee, Todd Mayo scored all 17 of his points in the second half to lead Marquette to a 69-62 win over Butler. The Golden Eagles overcame a 10-point deficit in the second half to grab the victory and improve to 5-5 in BIG EAST play.
Kellen Dunham led Butler with 16 points.
There are no BIG EAST games on Wednesday or Thursday. The Friday slate includes Seton Hall at Villanova and DePaul at Creighton. Both games will be televised on FOX Sports 1.
