Saturday’s two home teams picked up hard earned victories.

Georgetown continued its strong play of late and defeated Butler 71-63. Markel Starks played all 40 minutes and finished with a team-high 19 points, seven assists and no turnovers. Backcourt partner D’Vauntes Smith-Rivera added 18 points which included 8-of-8 from the foul line.

Bulldog freshman forward Andrew Chrabascz posted a career-high 24 points on 9-of-13 shooting from the field. Kelln Dunham scored 15 points.

While the Hoyas extended their winning streak to three games, Xavier snapped a three-game losing streak with its 59-53 victory over Providence. The game was decided in the final minute when Musketeer guard Semaj Chirston, the team’s top scorer, made two strong defensive plays in the final minute with a steal and a deflected pass. He also scored 12 points.

The Friars, who are at Georgetown on Monday, were led by guard Josh Fortune’s 17 points. Bryce Cotton was held to nine points.

Xavier plays at Butler on Tuesday.

Creighton will battle St. John’s on FOX Sports 1 Sunday at 7 p.m. The first matchup between the two teams in Omaha on Jan. 28 went down to the final seconds. Doug McDermott capped a 39-point night with a 3-pointer with 2.8 seconds left to lead the Bluejays to a 63-60 win.
