Villanova remained alone at the top of the BIG EAST standings with an 87-62 triumph at DePaul on Wednesday.
The Wildcats, who are 10-1 in league play, could not be stopped offensively. The shot 55.1 percent from the field and 90 percent from the foul line. Guard Darrun Hilliard led five players in double figures with 22 points.
In BIG EAST games, the Wildcats rank first in scoring average (79.7) and field goal percentage (.488).
Thursday’s schedule includes Creighton at Butler. The Bluejays, 9-2 in the BIG EAST, will be aiming to stay within a half game of Villanova before they meet the Wildcats in Omaha on Sunday afternoon.
Butler wants to end its three-game losing streak.
Also, St. John’s hops on a bus headed for Seton Hall. The red-hot Red Storm have won six of their last seven games and are coming off a 70-65 win against Creighton. The Pirates want to be one basket better than their first meeting with St. John’s when they lost 77-76 at Carnesecca Arena on Jan. 23.
