Point guard Sherman Douglas led Syracuse on it's march to a first elusive BIG EAST title at Madison Square Garden.
After finishing as the runner-up at the Garden three times overall and each of the two previous years, the Orangemen beat Villanova 85-68 in the final. It was Syracuse's first BIG EAST crown since winning at home in 1981.
Douglas grabbed Tournament MVP honors as he dished out 25 assists in wins over Boston College, Seton Hall and the Wildcats. Teammate Stephen Thompson joined him on the All-Tournament Team.
Villanova reached its first championship game since 1982 by knocking off top-seeded Pittsburgh 72-69 in the semifinals.
