Georgetown swept both the BIG EAST regular season and tournament titles.
Hoyas senior Charles Smith led the way. The senior guard scored 66 points and handed out 20 assists throughout the tournament to win the inaugural Dave Gavitt Trophy presented to the Most Outstanding Player.
Georgetown was never seriously threatened and enjoyed comfortable victories over Boston College (85-52) in the quarterfinals, Pittsburgh (85-62) in the semifinals and Syracuse (88-79) in the championship.
Smith was joined by teammate Alonzo Mourning on the All-Tournament Team that also featured Sherman Douglas of Syracuse and Ramon Ramos and John Morton of No. 2-seeded Seton Hall.
