Buzzer-beating shots from guard Oliver Taylor lifted Seton Hall to victories over Pittsburgh and Villanova and into the final where the Pirates defeated Georgetown 74-62 for their first BIG EAST title.
Taylor was named Dave Gavitt Trophy winner for his heroics. Seton Hall edged Pittsburgh 70-69 in the quarterfinals after Taylor went the length of the floor and made a layup. The next night against the Wildcats he hit a foul line jumper for a 74-72 win.
Villanova had knocked out top-seeded Syracuse 70-68 in the opening round.
Seton Hall's Anthony Avent joined Taylor on the All-Tournament team that also featured Dikembe Mutombo and Alonzo Mourning of the Hoyas and Eric Murdock of Providence.
