The BIG EAST championship game was full of future NBA stars highlighted by a battle of backcourt giants - Ray Allen of Connecticut and Allen Iverson of Georgetown.

Allen didn’t have a particularly good shooting day but his off-balance jumper with 13.6 seconds remaining gave the top-seeded Huskies a 75-74 lead. Second-seeded Georgetown had two final shots to win but missed.

The Huskies beat Syracuse 85-67 and Georgetown defeated Villanova 84-76 in the semifinals.

In addition to Allen and Iverson, future NBA stars and All-Tournament Team members were Travis Knight of Connecticut, Othella Harrington of the Hoyas, John Wallace of Syracuse and Kerry Kittles of Villanova. Allen, Kittles and Iverson also were first team all-Americans.
