Freshman guard and Dave Gavitt Trophy winner James “Scoonie” Penn lifted the Boston College Eagles to their first BIG EAST crown by beating top-seeded Villanova 70-58 in the final.

Penn scored 41 points and dished out 15 assists in the tournament to lead the No. 3 seed Eagles. In the quarterfinals BC got past No. 6 Pittsburgh, 76-68, and in the semifinals beat No. 2 Georgetown 70-58 to reach their first final since 1983.

Penn was joined by teammates Danya Abrams and Duane Woodward on the All-Tournament Team. Rounding out the team were Tim Thomas and Alvin Williams of Villanova and Victor Page of Georgetown.
