Troy Bell stood only 6-foot-1 and 180 pounds but the Boston College guard played a much bigger game to lead the Eagles to its first BIG EAST crown by beating Pittsburgh 79-57 in the final.
Bell's stat line for the tournament was huge - 58 points, 12 rebounds, 10 steals and eight assists. He was named the Dave Gavitt Trophy winner.
It was the first year that the BIG EAST played in two divisions and the Eagles were the East Division champions. They played liked champions the entire tournament with comfortable wins over Villanova (93-79) in the quarterfinals and Seton Hall (75-48) in the semis.
Pittsburgh, the number five seed in the West Division, surprised Syracuse, the No. 3 seed in the West, 55-54 in overtime in the semifinals.
All-Tournament Team members included Xavier Singletary and Jonathan Beerbohm of Boston College, Eddie Griffin of Seton Hall, Preston Shumpert of Syracuse and Ricardo Greer of Pittsburgh.
