Men's Basketball Update - 3.2.14
Before a record crowd of 10,483 at the Cintas Center, Xavier knocked off visiting Creighton 75-69 for its 20th win overall and 10th victory in the BIG EAST.
Guard Semaj Christon led the Musketeer offense with 21 points. Forward Justin Martin rose to the occasion with 19 points and a career-high 16 rebounds.
Creighton's Doug McDermott posted the 35th double-double of his career with 27 points and 10 rebounds. He is in 10th place on the NCAA's scoring list with 2,944 points.
Sunday's schedule shows two afternoon contests. DePaul plays St. John's at Madison Square Garden at noon ET on CBS Sports Network. One of the Blue Demons' three league wins came against the Red Storm 77-75 on Jan. 14. St. John's is 8-8 in the standings and will be playing its final regular-season game in New York.
At 2 p.m. on CBS Sports, Marquette tangles with Villanova at the Wells Fargo Center. The two teams went into overtime in the first meeting at the Bradley Center before the Wildcats prevailed 94-85 on Jan. 25.
Marquette is 9-6 in BIG EAST play and a win would keep the Golden Eagles in a third-place tie with Xavier. Villanova will be in sole possession of first place with a victory.
