NEW YORK - Villanova is the No. 1 seed in The BIG EAST Tournament Presented by NEW YORK LIFE, which will be played March 12-15 at Madison Square Garden in New York.

The Wildcats put together a 16-2 league mark, their highest BIG EAST win total ever. They are 28-3 overall. Creighton is the No. 2 seed after the Bluejays finished 14-4 in conference play. Both teams will await the results of Wednesday’s two first-round games as they prepare to begin play in the quarterfinal round.

Villanova will meet the winner of No. 8 Seton Hall (15-16, 6-12) and No. 9 Butler (14-16, 4-14) Thursday at noon ET. The Pirates and Bulldogs played Saturday with Butler winning 71-64.

Creighton, 24-6 overall, will take on the winner of No. 7 Georgetown (17-13, 8-10) and No. 10 DePaul at 7 p.m. on Thursday. The Hoyas won both regular-season meetings against the Blue Demons.

The other two quarterfinal games on Thursday will be No. 4 Providence (20-11, 10-8) versus No. 5 St. John’s (20-11, 10-8) following the Villanova game in the afternoon and No. 3 Xavier (20-11, 10-8) against No. 6 Marquette (17-14, 9-9) in the last game of the day after the Creighton contest.

All BIG EAST Tournament games will be televised by FOX Sports 1. The semifinal doubleheader will be played Friday at 7 p.m. The championship game is Saturday at 8:30 p.m.
