BIG EAST Conference to Convene Roundtable on College Basketball with Group of Industry Leaders

NEW YORK - The BIG EAST Conference will bring together a distinguished group of experts to participate in the BIG EAST Basketball Roundtable on key topics relating to men's collegiate basketball, to be held just prior to the conference's tournament semifinal games on Friday, March 14, from 2-4 p.m. at the Westin Grand Central in New York City, Commissioner Val Ackerman announced on Wednesday.

Expected panelists include:

• Stu Jackson, color analyst for BIG EAST Basketball on Fox Sports 1, former NBA Head Coach, and former NBA Executive Vice President of Basketball Operations;

• Billy King, President of Basketball Operations for the Brooklyn Nets;

• Tom Jernstedt, BIG EAST Senior Advisor, former NCAA Executive Vice President and 2010 inductee in the National Collegiate Basketball Hall of Fame;

• Austin Croshere, studio analyst for BIG EAST on Fox Sports 1 and former NBA player; and,

• Art Hyland, former BIG EAST Supervisor of Officials and current NCAA Rules Secretary

As part of the event, NBA Commissioner Adam Silver and Georgetown President Jack DeGioia will be interviewed in separate, one-on-one discussions. Expected topics include the state of intercollegiate athletics, the relationship between the NBA and NCAA, the evolution of the NCAA tournament, and the rules and style of play in the college game.

"We look forward to hearing the insights and perspectives of acclaimed experts about many of the current issues surrounding men's college basketball," said Ackerman. "As a conference with a proud basketball history, the BIG EAST is heavily invested in the sport, and we are excited to help facilitate the dialogue about the game's future opportunities and challenges."

The one-on-one conversations will be conducted by Scott Soshnick of Bloomberg News and Bruce Beck of WNBC-TV.

This year marks the 35th anniversary of the BIG EAST men's basketball tournament, which has been held at Madison Square Garden since 1983. Last year, the Conference relocated its headquarters from Providence, Rhode Island to Manhattan.



The BIG EAST is Butler University, Creighton University, DePaul University, Georgetown University, Marquette University, Providence College, St. John's University, Seton Hall University, Villanova University and Xavier University.
