CINCINNATI – The University of Cincinnati men’s basketball team returns to the NCAA Championship for the third consecutive year with a second round matchup against Creighton on Friday March 22 at the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia, Pa. The game time has not been determined.
UC (22-11) is the No. 10 seed while the Bluejays (27-7) are the No. 7 seed. No. 2 Duke and No. 15 Albany are the other two Midwest Region teams in Philadelphia.
The Bearcats finished the regular season topping the 21-win barrier for the third straight season. The Bearcats started off the season 12-0 and were led by junior Sean Kilpatrick (16.9 ppg) and seniors Cashmere Wright (12.6 ppg) and JaQuon Parker (11.3 ppg).
Creighton won its 12th Missouri Valley Conference Tournament title in program history while earning back-to-back crowns for the third time. Doug McDermott leads the way for the Bluejays, averaging 23.1 points per game and 7.5 rebounds per game. He has won back-to-back MVC Player of the Year honors and has already been named a finalist for National Player of the Year accolades for the Wooden Award, Naismith Award and Oscar Robertson Trophy.
UC and Creighton have met twice on the hardwood with the Bearcats holding a 2-0 advantage. The teams first came in NCAA Midwest Region action on March 16, 1962 with UC earning a 66-46 win on their way to winning the 1962 NCAA Championship. The team's second meeting occurred on Dec. 28, 1989; a 60-58 Bearcats win in the Rainbow Classic.
The Bearcats are 2-2 all time as a No. 7 seed and hold a 25-11 mark in Midwest Region games. UC’s six NCAA Final Four appearances have all come out of the Midwest Region.
The UC Athletics Ticket Office was allocated a very limited number of tickets for the second round games in Philadelphia. Based on such limited availability, UCATS Director's Society members, George Smith Society members and patrons contributing at $5000 and above will receive priority in the allocation process.
Second and third round tickets are $85 apiece for all seats at the Wells Fargo Center. All tickets will be available at the will call window in Philadelphia beginning approximately 2 hrs before tipoff. The location will be determined at a later date and sent via e-mail to all patrons who purchase tickets. A photo ID will be required to claim the tickets. Ticket purchase rights are non-transferable.
Tickets for games in Philadelphia are still available for public purchase by calling 1-877-NCAA-TIX (877-622-2849) or visiting www.ticketmaster.com.
On Monday, March 18, The University of Cincinnati will continue to accept and finalize NCAA ticket requests from UCATS Director's Society members, George Smith Society members and patrons contributing at $5000 and above.
Members of the Director's Society and George Smith Society are eligible for up to four tickets to the second and third-round games. Patrons contributing at $5000 and above are eligible for up to two tickets for the second and third round games. Those eligible UCATS members may request tickets by logging into their account at CATSTIX.com, and clicking "Men's Basketball Post Season". All requests must be submitted by 5 p.m. on Monday, March 18.
All other UCATS members can call 513-558-2287 to be placed on a waiting list for tickets that will be allocated in descending priority points order in the event of cancellations. We will attempt to contact you as soon as possible when and if tickets become available.
The credit card that is entered will be charged for the second round game Friday, and provided the Bearcats move on, will then be charged for the third round game Sunday.
There will be a lottery for UC student tickets. Current UC students should go to the student ticket page on www.CATSTIX.com and login to their account to enter the lottery. The entry deadline is 2 p.m. ET on Monday, March 18th. Fifty (50) lottery winners and 10 alternates will be contacted via e-mail after 3 p.m. on Monday, March 18. Students who earned loyalty points by attending games throughout the season will be given first priority. Lottery winners are eligible to purchase two tickets, one for them and one for another UC student they would like to sit with. Students will be charged $85 per ticket and must finalize payment by 5 p.m. on Monday, March 18th.
