Napier, Arcidiacono Earn First Weekly Men's Basketball Honors


PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- The BIG EAST Conference has named Connecticut guard Shabazz Napier and Villanova guard Ryan Arcidiacono the winners of the league's first weekly men's basketball honors for games through Nov. 18.
Napier was named BIG EAST Player of the Week after he helped Connecticut to a 4-0 start to the season, finishing as the Huskies' top scorer in all four games. He began the year with a game-high 25 points in a 66-62 win against No. 14 Michigan State and capped the week with 29 points in an 89-83 win against Quinnipiac in double-overtime. Napier averaged 20.8 points and shot 88.6 percent from the free throw line in four games.
Arcidiacono,who was named BIG EAST Rookie of the Week, has helped Villanova to a 3-1 start to the season, averaging 16.3 points and 4.5 assists per game while shooting 89.3 percent from the free throw line, good for third among all BIG EAST players. He scored a game-high 25 points in the Wildcats' 80-68 win against Marshall and had 18 points and six assists in an 89-81 overtime win against Purdue in the 2K Sports Classic.

Averaged 24.5 points and 5.0 assists in four games. Shot 80.6 from the free throw line.
BRANDON TRICHE, Syracuse, G, Jr.
Averaged 18.0 points, 5.0 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 1.5 steals in two wins.
