The DePaul Blue Demons (2-4) helped the BIG EAST improve to 15-0 this week with an 86-84 win over Northern Illinois on Thursday night. DePaul got a career-high 25 points from Tony Freeland, who also led the team with nine rebounds. Freeland hit 13-of-16 from the free throw line as the Blue Demons made 41 trips to the line on the night, making 32. DePaul led by as many as 17 points late in the first half and took a 38-28 lead into halftime. The squad finished shooting 26-of-58 from the floor (44.8 percent). Freshman Brandon Young notched 17 points for DePaul. He continues to lead the Blue Demons in scoring at 13.6 points per game.
Friday has two teams in action, beginning with No. 7/9 Connecticut taking on UMBC at 7 p.m. No. 12/12 Villanova then hosts cross-town rival St. Joseph's at 8:45 p.m. on ESPNU.
