Men's Basketball Roundup - Dec. 7

Providence (9-1) was the only BIG EAST team in action on Monday night, cruising to a 91-64 win over Brown at the Dunkin Donuts Center. The win improved BIG EAST team's to 7-1 against the Ivy League and 70-2 (.972) at home this season.
Sophomore guard Vincent Council set a career high and tied a school record with 16 assists in the game. The record was set by Vin Ernst back in 1963. He added 19 points for his third double-double this year. Senior forward Marshon Brooks also had a career night with 33 points on 14-of-21 shooting. The game was close at the half, with PC leading 39-34. An 18-5 Friars run to open the second half helped Providence built a 57-39 lead in a dominant second half. The Friars are off to a 9-1 record to start the year, the team's best start since 1988-89 when the squad began the season 10-0.
Five games are on the BIG EAST slate Tuesday night. West Virginia hosts reigning Northeast Conference champion Robert Morris at 7 p.m. on St. John's and Marquette will also be on, as the Red Storm host St. Bonaventure at 7 p.m. and the Golden Eagles host Texas A&M- Corpus Christi at 9 p.m. Rutgers will tangle with Marist at 7:30 p.m. No. 8/7 Syracuse highlights the evening with a matchup against No. 7/8 Michigan State in the Jimmy V Classic at Madison Square Garden. The game will be on ESPN at 9 p.m.
