Behanan, Sampson Take Weekly Men's Basketball Honors

PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- The BIG EAST Conference has named Louisville forward Chane Behanan and St. John's forward JaKarr Sampson the winners of the league's weekly men's basketball honors for the week-ending Dec. 16.
Behanan was named BIG EAST Player of the Week after he scored a season-high 22 points, including 16 in the second half, to help Louisville overcome a 16-point deficit and score an 87-76 win at Memphis. He hit his first 3-pointer of the season in the second half to spark the decisive 13-0 run that gave the Cardinals the lead for good against the Tigers. Behanan is averaging 10.1 points and 7.3 rebounds for the Cardinals, who have opened the season with nine wins in 10 games.

Sampson was tabbed as BIG EAST Rookie of the Week for the third time this season - and for the second consecutive week - as he scored 21 points and added 12 rebounds in the Red Storm's only game — a 77-60 neutral-court win against St. Francis (N.Y.).  It was Sampson's second consecutive double-double and his third of the season. Sampson is averaging 14.5 points and 7.4 rebounds this season.
