DEPAUL POSTS UPSET OVER STANFORD DePaul's 91-71 win over No. 3/2 Stanford on Dec. 16 is the program's highest-ranked win in 37 seasons in Lincoln Park. DePaul is 7-12 against ranked teams at McGrath Arena. Using a 26-12 run in the first eight minutes of the second stanza, DePaul pulled away for its first win over a No. 2 ranked team and second over a No. 3 ranked team. (The Blue Demons topped then-No. 3 Louisiana Tech, 70-67 on Dec. 14, 1996 at Alumni Hall.) The Blue Demons were led by junior Keisha Hampton had 27 points and senior Felicia Chester posted a career-high 24 points. COACH C. VIVIAN STRINGER'S MILESTONE Rutgers head coach C. Vivian Stringer claimed her 850th career win with a 90-56 victory against Kean on Dec. 15. Stringer is the third coach (second active) all-time to reach the 850-win mark. MAGGIE DIXON CLASSIC Connecticut and Rutgers will both participate in the Maggie Dixon Classic on Sunday, Dec. 19, held in New York, N.Y. at Madison Square Garden. UConn is 2-0 at the Garden, while Rutgers holds a 2-1 record all-time at the venue. In the last five outings, BIG EAST teams have gone 3-2 at the Maggie Dixon Classic. There will be one more BIG EAST women's basketball match-up featured at MSG this season, when St. John's hosts Connecticut during league play in January. THE BIG EAST VS. RANKED TEAMS The BIG EAST has posted nine wins against Top-25 teams this year. Seven different programs have posted the nine wins (Connecticut, DePaul, Georgetown, Louisville, Marquette, Syracuse and West Virginia). Most recently, No. 22/25 DePaul upset No. 3/2 Stanford 91-71 on Dec. 16. Marquette edged then-No. 23/17 Green Bay 63-60 on Dec. 12, while Syracuse knocked off then-No. 6/6 Ohio State 75-66 on Dec. 11. Last season the BIG EAST went 17-15 against top-25 teams, but did not earn its ninth win of the year until Dec. 28.
