BIG EAST teams went 5-2 on Saturday with Xavier and Butler scoring road victories.
Xavier was down 12 points with 16 minutes to play at Alabama, but rallied to win 77-74. Forward Isaiah Philmore posted career highs with 17 points and 12 rebounds. The Musketeers held the Crimson Tide without a field goal for over nine minutes in the second half.
Butler also saved its better play for the second half in its win at Evansville, outscoring the Purple Aces 39-27 after halftime. Guard Alex Barlow was the catalyst with 16 points, eight rebounds and four steals.
D'Angelo Harrison became the all-time leader in 3-pointers at St. John's in a 96-87 victory over Youngstown State. The junior guard has 156 3-pointers and led St. John's with 29 points.
Bryce Cotton continues to be the do-just-about-everything player for Providence. The senior guard's stat line in the 94-70 victory over Maine included 22 points, 10 assists, six rebounds, three steals and only one turnover in 39 minutes of play.
Villanova's bench outscored Rider's reserves in an 88-67 win. Freshman guard Josh Hart came off the bench to score a team-high 19 points.
Marquette let a seven-point halftime lead slip away in a 75-68 loss to New Mexico in a game played in Las Vegas. Georgetown struggled to contain No. 18/19 Kansas and lost 88-64, which ended a six-game winning streak.
