Rudd, Calhoun Take Weekly Men's Basketball Honors

PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- The BIG EAST Conference has named USF forward Victor Rudd and Connecticut forward Omar Calhoun the winners of the league's weekly men's basketball honors for the week-ending Dec. 23.


Rudd was named BIG EAST Player of the Week after averaging 22.5 points and 11.5 rebounds in a pair of victories for the Bulls.  In an 87-84 triple-overtime win against Bowling Green, he scored a season-high 29 points while hitting a game-tying 3-pointer with four seconds left in regulation and scoring the final three points in the final seconds of the third overtime.  In a 72-54 win against Youngstown State, the 6-9 junior recorded 16 points and a career-high 16 rebounds.


Calhoun averaged 19.5 points in a 2-0 week for the Huskies to be tabbed BIG EAST Rookie of the Week.  He finished with a collegiate-high 22 points in an 84-50 win over Maryland-Eastern Shore.  The 6-5 freshman tallied 17 points in an 88-73 victory against Fordham.  For the two games, Calhoun shot 14-of-21 from the floor and 6-of-9 from 3-point range.  For the season, Calhoun is averaging 10.9 ppg.

Recorded 16 points, 13 rebounds and three assists in an 81-68 win against American.
JACK COOLEY, Notre Dame, F, Sr.
In a 3-0 week, averaged 17.3 points and 12.0 rebounds.  Shot 79.2 percent from the floor and 82.3 from the line.
BRYCE COTTON, Providence, G, Jr.
Averaged 27.0 points, which included a 33-point game at Boston College, in a 1-1 week.
