Senior attackman Brian Casey (Bethesda, Md./Georgetown Prep), senior midfielder Dan McKinney (Niskayuna, N.Y./Niskayuna) and senior defender Chris Nourse (Erieville, N.Y./The Hotchkiss School) have all been selected to the All-BIG EAST Preseason Men's Lacrosse Team when conference honors were announced on Tuesday morning. The Hoyas were also selected to finish fifth in the preseason poll by the league's seven head coaches.
"I'm glad to see three of our hardest working guys earn the preseason acknowledgement," Head Coach Kevin Warne said. "Brian, Dan and Chris have worked very hard and have shown good leadership and are deserving of the recognition."
Casey, McKinney and Nourse are all being selected to the All-BIG EAST Preseason Team for the first time.
Casey, who was selected 48th by the Charlotte Hounds in this month's Major League Lacrosse Collegiate Draft, was an All-BIG EAST Second Team selection following the 2012 season. After moving from midfield to attack, Casey led the Hoyas with 20 goals and 35 points. Casey was selected as one of the team's tri-captains for the 2013 season.
McKinney, a two-year starter at midfield, finished last season with a career-high 13 goals and six assists, scoring two apiece in four different games, including the Hoyas victory over Syracuse. During his career, the Niskayuna, N.Y. native, has scored 19 goals and dished out eight assists in 40 career games.
Chris Nourse finished third in the BIG EAST in caused turnovers per game (1.62) during the 2012 season, while seeing time at close defense and long stick midfield. Despite a preseason injury, Nourse led the Hoyas with 21 caused turnovers and finished picking up 27 ground balls. Nourse has caused 64 turnovers in 37 career games.
Georgetown was selected to finish fifth in the preseason poll collecting 19 votes, after finishing 7-6 overall and 3-3 in conference play for a fifth place finish in 2012. Notre Dame earned five first place votes to take the top spot in the poll, with Syracuse, St. John's and Villanova rounding out the top four. Rutgers and Providence were selected sixth and seventh, respectively.
The Hoyas are less than a month away from its season-opener, when they host Lafayette College at Multi-Sport Field on Saturday, February 16. The opening face-off is scheduled for noon.
