NEW YORK - Villanova's John LoCascio, the conference coaches' choice for BIG EAST Preseason Defensive Player of the Year in January, is one of 10 finalists for the Senior CLASS Award as announced on Tuesday.

The senior from Fairfield, N.J., is the sole BIG EAST representative on the list of 10 finalists. Nine schools overall are represented, with No. 1 Loyola Maryland the only institution with two.

Voting is currently open to the public for the Senior CLASS Award and accounts for one-third of the total ballots. The remaining two-thirds come from coaches and media members. Fans can vote for up to three student-athletes daily by clicking here.

LoCascio has lived up to his preseason billing thus far. He leads the BIG EAST and is sixth nationally with 2.44 caused turnovers per game. His totals of 50 ground balls and 22 caused turnovers both lead the Wildcats. In addition to his defensive numbers, he's also one of the most dangerous offensive options among long poles in the nation. He has three goals and eight assists for 11 points in nine games, making seven starts. He was the 2013 BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Year and a third-team All-America selection as a junior. In the classroom, he holds a 3.67 grade-point average majoring in finance and minoring in economics in the Villanova School of Business.

To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must be classified as an NCAA Division I senior and have notable achievements in four areas of excellence - community, classroom, character and competition. The complete list of finalists follows this release.

An acronym for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School®, the Senior CLASS Award focuses on the total student-athlete and encourages students to use their platform in athletics to make a positive impact as leaders in their communities.

Finalists were chosen by national media from the list of 20 candidates announced in February. Nationwide fan voting begins immediately to help select the winner. Fans are encouraged to vote on the Senior CLASS Award website through May 12. Fan votes will be combined with media and Division I head coaches' votes to determine the winner. The Senior CLASS Award winner will be announced during the 2014 NCAA Lacrosse Championships in Baltimore May 24-26.
