VILLANOVA, PA -- Villanova and Syracuse will play for the BIG EAST Men's Lacrosse Championship title on May 4 at Villanova Stadium at 12 p.m. ET on ESPNU. Top-seeded Villanova defeated No. 4 seed Georgetown in the semifinals, while No. 2 seed Syracuse knocked off third-seeded Notre Dame to advance.
SU held Notre Dame to a season-low three goals in the semifinal, holding the Fighting Irish scoreless for a drought of 35:19 to grab the victory and advance to the title game. The Orange are seeking their second-straight BIG EAST Championship title and automatic berth to the NCAA Championship.
BIG EAST Midfielder of the Year JoJo Marasco leads the Orange with 51 points on 17 goals and 34 assists. Goalkeeper Dominic Lamolinara has an 8.37 goals-against average and has a .542 save percentage.
Villanova outscored Georgetown 4-0 in the second quarter to win 15-12 on Thursday night. All-BIG EAST Second Team selection Jack Rice finished the game with five goals for Villanova, while senior attackman Will Casertano finished with four points on two goals and two assists.
Rice leads the Wildcats with 35 points, all on goals. All-BIG EAST Second Team honoree Max Hart is second on the team with 20 goals and 11 assists. Reed Carlson has logged over 537 minutes in net for the Wildcats, making 79 saves for a .473 save percentage.
Villanova and Syracuse each went 5-1 in conference play to share the regular season title.
The Wildcats took the No. 1 seed by virtue of a head-to-head tiebreaker with Syracuse earlier in the season, when Villanova defeated the Orange 11-10 at home on March 23.
The NCAA Men's Lacrosse Championship 16-team field will be announced on Sunday, May 5 at 9 p.m. ET on ESPNU.
